IPL 2023 is set to begin on Friday, with fans gearing up for some thrilling cricket and epic extravaganza. Defending champions Gujarat Titans will face Chennai Super Kings in the season opener.
IPL 2023 is finally set to begin on Friday, with defending champions Gujarat Giants facing Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In their debut campaign, Hardik Pandya’s GT team were in dominant form in IPL 2022, with 20 points from 14 matches topping the table with 10 wins and four losses. In the playoffs, GT defeated Rajasthan Royals to advance to the finals. Meanwhile, buoyed by a second-place finish, RR faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eliminator, winning by seven wickets to book a berth in the final.
The final was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and was won by GT by seven wickets. Chasing a target of 131, Hardik and Co. scored 133/3 in 18.1 overs with the help of Shopman Gill’s unbeaten 45 off 43 balls with three fours and a six. On debut, RR scored 130/9 in 20 overs with Hardik taking three wickets. GT Captain was also the player of the match.
Ahead of IPL 2023, all ten franchises have made some smart changes to their rosters, many of them breaking the bank at the auctions. Sam Curran has become the costliest player in the history of the competition in the IPL 2023 auction, as Punjab Kings bought him for $185.00 million. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians and CSK spent Rs 17.50 crore on Cameron Green and Rs 16.25 crore on Ben Stokes respectively. At the same time, Nicholas Pooran was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for Rs 16 crore and Harry Brook was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 13.25 crore.
There will be a total of 70 league matches in IPL 2023, out of which 18 will be double headers. Each team will play seven home and away matches. Rajasthan Royals will play their first two home matches in Guwahati and then play the rest of their matches in Jaipur. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings will play their five home matches in Mohali and then their last two home matches in Dharamsala.
